You will also get a very low profile and easy to strike three wood and a five hybrid. We love that the set provides a mix of fairway woods and hybrids in addition to the irons. The 6-9 irons have a low center of gravity and a wide sole.

With the Complete set, you also get a putter, the golf bag, and two headcovers. Overall this is an excellent option for the budget-conscious beginner. It has plenty of golf clubs and technology to provide a simple start to this game.

The Tour is the only Strata option that comes in your choice of shafts. The club heads themselves are a bit different on the Tour set as well. Although the clubs will still be quite forgiving, they will appeal to the middle handicapper a bit more than the other sets.

The Tour has a better feel than the Complete, Plus or Ultimate versions. If you have a faster swing speed and some athletic ability, this Callaway Strata Tour is an excellent introduction to the game. Although the driver will still have a large sweet spot, it's going to feel a bit more like a players club than some of the other options.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who Makes The Strata Complete Sets?

With the popularity of the Strata sets, they have started being called Strata instead of Callaway Strata. Callaway makes this set of clubs. There is no question you are getting a quality build when you look at the Callaway Strata set; however, it won't be quite like the Mavrik.

The Mavrik is the newest line of Callaway equipment, and everything about it is top of the line. However, a Mavrik driver alone will cost much more than an entire set of the Strata golf clubs. If you are new to the game or a golfer that plays once in a while, you will not want or need clubs this expensive.

Is The Strata Set Good For An Experienced Golfer?

The Callaway Strata complete and Plus options are not great for an experienced golfer. The shafts are going to be a very lightweight stainless steel that will probably not be a good match for the experienced golfers swing speed.

The Tour option could be a good set for a golfer who has been around a while but still wants an affordable set of clubs with lots of forgiveness. The Callaway Strata 12 piece complete set will likely not be enough, but the Tour could do the trick.

Are the Strata Women's Golf Sets the Same As The Men?

In this review, we mostly focused on the Strata Men's golf club options, but there are also choices for the female golfer. There is an 11, 14, 16, and a Tour-16 set for the woman golfer. These are going to have very similar set makeup to the men's sets.

The only significant difference you will encounter is that instead of three wood, most of the women's sets include five wood. This is simply because a five wood is just a bit easier to hit than the three wood when your swing speed is not fast.

What Swing Speed Do I need To Play The Strata Clubs?

Since the Strata is considered a beginner set, you do not need a lot of swing speed. In fact, if you have a great deal of speed, this is not the set for you. If, for some reason, you are set on the Strata, and you swing the club a bit fast, go for the Tour version in the stiff flex.

Will I Need To Add More Clubs To This Set?

You may need to add in a few more clubs, depending on which option you choose. If you go for the Complete, you will likely need to add a sand wedge in at some point.

None of the sets come with a lob wedge, and none of them come with a five wood. These are two clubs that you may want to add in overtime, and you will have the room in your golf bag to fit these clubs as well.

You do not need to worry about the woods or an extra wedge matching the Strata set precisely. If you find a TaylorMade 5 wood or additional hybrid that you love, it will not be a problem to add these to your Strata set.

Is the Callaway Strata Golf Bag a Good Golf Bag?

Yes, the Callaway Strata set is a perfect lightweight and easy to carry stand bag. This bag will allow you ample room to carry your clubs around, and you get a few headcovers with each set to properly protect your golf clubs as well.

If you plan on walking and carrying your clubs, you can easily do so with the Strata. Not all beginner golf club sets come with a bag that is conducive to walking. As a beginner, you should learn to walk the course as well as ride. It will help you understand the game, the concentration, and all the other factors involved in becoming a great player.

Is the Callaway Strata Putter Effective?

The putter that comes with these Strata clubs is a mallet type design. Mallet putters are good for learning how to control distance and speed. If you are new to the game and have no feel when it comes to putting the mallet putter is a smart choice.

Should I Be Concerned About Steel Shafted Irons?

No, the steel shaft used in the Strata is a very forgiving and high launching steel. You will have more control over this steel option, and it will not slow down your swing speed either. If you want something to help get your iron game in check that still provides plenty of lengths, the steel is the way to go.

Testing Criteria used for evaluation

Shaft Flex

Most of the Strata sets are going to have a uniflex shaft. Uniflex is a mix between a regular and a stiff shaft. The uniflex will be much closer to a regular than a stiff in that it will be very flexible and easy to launch.

IF you have played quite a bit of golf in your day and you know that you need a stiff shaft because of your swing speed, then you have to go with the Tour Callaway Strata set. The Tour set is the only one with the option of purchasing a stiff shaft. In fact, this is one of the only complete golf sets on the market that features a stiff golf shaft.

Set Makeup

As you noticed in our Callaway Strata Review, each of the Strata Golf Club sets has a different makeup. If you want more clubs, you have to look at the Plus or Ultimate sets. For some golfers, a set of clubs with extra pieces is not going to make much of a difference. You may not need more clubs just to have what you need to enjoy the golf course.

Although the Complete is a great value, it is hard to be without a sand wedge. If you happen to have an old sand wedge lying around or one from your old bag of clubs, then by all means, the Complete is the way to go.

However, if you choose a set without a sand wedge, you may find yourself struggling when you get on the golf course. As far as a complete set of golf clubs is concerned, a sand wedge is among the more critical clubs in the bag.

Price

With the Callaway Strata set of golf clubs, the pricing tends to go up with the number of clubs in the bag. There are really not that many differences between each version of the Strata aside from the number of clubs and headcovers. If you want to keep the price down, there is nothing wrong with the quality on the cheaper Complete set. It is a great golf club; you just don't get the sand wedge or the two extra headcovers. For the difference in price, this may be worth it for you.

Quick Summary of Callaway Strata Review for 2021

Hopefully, this Callaway Strata Review helped give you a better idea as to the options that are out there for you. We love that Callaway gave so many great options when it comes to these beginners and higher handicapper sets.

Unfortunately, the Callaway Strata does not come in a senior flex option, but seniors looking for some forgiveness and value can do very well with the Strata. Remember, this is not a set for a high swing speed player. If you were the cleanup batter on your college baseball team, these golf clubs are not the right match for you.

Choose a Strata set with the makeup that you need for the price that works with your budget; you really can't go wrong.
