Best Golf Rain Gear To Keep You Dry

I was just about to head out to the golf course the other morning. I rolled out of bed, got myself a mug of coffee, and headed outside with clubs in tow.

Then I noticed I was standing in about 3 inches of water, and more was falling from the sky. It had been raining all night, and it wasn't going to be letting up.

Luckily, I had come prepared for just such an event, with my golfing rain gear on me! With the proper gear, rain was not going to slow me down, and I was able to go golfing without a hitch... not counting the numerous puddles on the course that is.

Having this kind of gear is essential, as rain can come out of nowhere, and can ruin a good game if unprepared. It is for this reason that we are making this list today, to get you prepared for the elements should the worst happen.

Why Do You Need Golf Rain Gear?

Golf rain gear comes in various forms, from club covers to gloves, all with the intention of protecting you and your equipment from the wet conditions. It may seem like all the different kinds of gear is too much at first, but the need of all this equipment is necessary when considering the effects just a little rain can have on your golf game.

To begin with, rain can affect the condition of the course you are playing on. The rain can not only cause muddy conditions on the course that can slow down or stop your ball dead on impact, but the softer ground may mean you are hacking up more dirt than usual on your shots.

And we can't forget to mention the detrimental effect that rain can have on your grip. Wet hands equal less stable and slippery grip, and this in turn can lead to highly inaccurate and erratic shots.

Finally, with all the rain coming down around you, into your face and eyes, it can be hard to focus and see what you are doing. Your shots are likely already suffering because of slippery hands, so adding to your issues with visibility problems really does not help.

It is for these reasons that it is important to have the right gear available should rain become an issue. To help you decide on what kind of gear to get, we are providing you with this list of some of the best rain gear available, which will be able to step up to any challenge you may have when the skies open up.

GustBuster 48-Inch Automatic Golf Umbrella

It looks like rain in the neighborhood... whatcha gonna use? A GUSTBUSTER! Bad "Ghostbusters" joke aside, an umbrella is an obvious piece of gear that you will want should it rain, and for golfers, the GustBuster is the way to go!

To begin with, this is a large umbrella that is heavy duty and wind resistant for winds up to 55 miles per hour! This alone makes it not like your everyday umbrella, as it will be able to shield you and stand with you even in the harshest of conditions.

GustBuster Classic 48 Inch Automatic Golf Umbrella

Speaking of harsh conditions, while I never would recommend playing in a lightning storm, should you find yourself in one then you are in good hands with the GustBuster. Using a fiberglass shaft, the GustBuster is actually lightning resistant, making the umbrella safer to use in a thunderstorm than your average umbrella.

Despite being great in a storm, the material of the umbrella is not as durable as some may like. As such, care should be taken when storing the umbrella, as rips and tears may happen if you are not careful with it.

If you are looking for a great, weather-resistant umbrella, you can't go wrong with the GustBuster. With protection from rain, wind, and lightning all in your hand with this umbrella, you will soon find yourself saying "I ain't afraid of no Gust!" (I swear, that's my last pun!)

Things We Liked

  • Windproof and durable
  • Pinchless open and close release system
  • Choice of automatic or manual opening

Mizuno Rainfit Wet Weather Gloves

To help with the grip issues a golfer may come across on the course, we have the Mizuno Rainfit Wet Weather Gloves. As important as a good wet weather glove is to your game, you'll want the best, and the Mizuno just may be that.

The Rainfit is designed with microfiber suede palms, which is a design choice that helps to improve grip. That is due to the fact that the palms absorb moisture, and it actually makes your grip even better the wetter they get.

The fit of the glove is something you will not have to worry about with the Rainfit. Featuring Mizuno's 3-D Pre-Curved pattern and FleshMesh inserts, the Rainfit provides a tight and comfortable fit that is great for any golfer.

While it should not come as a surprise, the gloves do tend to get warm, especially during the summer. Seeing as you will likely be using these gloves during the warmer, rainy season, it may make some golfers uncomfortable.

But that is a small price to pay when put up against all the benefits you get from the Rainfit. When the rain hits, there is no better way to help your grip than the Mizuno Rainfit gloves.

Seaforth Rain Hood

There would be few things that would be worse than having a golf bag filled with water and soaked clubs.

To help prevent this kind of situation, we have the Seaforth Rain Hood, a golf bag cover that blocks out the rain.

This hood is made of lightweight nylon that easily slips over the top of your clubs and golf bag.

This hood secures with a pull cord, and with its waterproof design, helps keep your equipment nice and dry by keeping the rain out.

The bag needs to only be secured on top of your bag once, and does not need to constantly be removed when changing clubs. This is thanks to the Velcro closure, which opens up and allows easy access to all your clubs without the need of removing the hood and exposing them to moisture.

While this Velcro enclosure is good for easy access, the Velcro can sometimes wear easy. Consistent use and opening and closing of the Velcro enclosure can damage the Velcro, making it hard to close. But this is an issue that happens over time, and isn't something that should concern you too much.

Being able to protect your equipment from the elements is important, as you want to be able to use your clubs and bag for a long time to come. With the Seaforth Rain Hood, protecting your gear has become that much easier.

Things We Liked

  • Needs to be secured only once
  • Allows for easy access to clubs
  • Keeps bag and clubs dry

Things We Didn't Like

  • Velcro wears overtime

The Weather Company Waterproof Golf Hats

It goes without saying that keeping the water out of your face when golfing in the rain is likely something you want to do. To help with that are these waterproof hats from The Weather Company.

The Weather Company hats are made of 100% Microfiber polyester fabric that helps to make the hat waterproof. That way, no matter how heavy the downpour, your head and face will stay dry thanks to this hat.

People with larger and smaller heads alike can both use this hat, as it is one size fits most. Should you find the fit loose, however, the hat comes with a drawstring to help tighten the hat and make it fit the way you like.

Wind can sometimes be an issue with the brim of the hat. While the brim of the hat does provide water protection, the flimsiness of the brim can cause it to sometimes get caught strong winds, which can in turn cause the hat to fly off your head.

This isn't too big of an issue, though, as it can be eliminated easily by tightening the hat strings. With that issue taken care of, and with water protection that can't be beat, you have no reason not to buy a Weather Company hat.

Things We Liked

  • Waterproof with taped seams
  • Draw cord for easy size adjustments
  • Brim provides protection rain or shine

Things We Didn't Like

  • Brim is a little flimsy

Nike Golf Men's Storm-Fit Rain Suit

So far, we've talked a lot about how to protect almost everything from the rain, from your hands to your clubs, but we haven't talked much yet about your body itself. To help you keep yourself nice and dry, we present you with the Nike Storm-Fit Rain Suit.

Made of 100% Polyester, the Nike suit is completely waterproof and seam sealed. This will keep you and your clothes dry in even the heaviest of rain, allowing you to keep playing without worry no matter the weather.

If you are concerned about the way you may look in this rain suit, then you will be happy to know that the Nike Storm-Fit both looks great and comes in a variety of colors. This allows you to golf in style on the course while staying dry, making you the envy of your fellow golfers.

The only real drawback of this product is the price, which comes up to a pricey $100 at a minimum. While that price may not deter some, others may be turned off by it, opting instead for a cheaper option.

But those cheaper options don't provide the protection from the elements like the Nike Golf Storm-Fit Rain Suit does. Able to not only protect you from rain, but also wind and even snow, the Storm-Fit is a perfect choice for full-body weather protection.
