2023 Callaway Supersoft Overview

The 2023 Callaway Supersoft golf balls is a two-piece golf ball and one of the most popular balls that Callaway offers.

The reason they are so popular is due to a couple of reasons.

The Supersoft is a very soft-feeling golf ball with a very low compression rate. With its low spin, you have a ball that is made to travel far distances. The golf ball is great for casual golfers who want good distance, but don’t want to pay a lot of money.

Callaway also brought back several color variations available, which is great for golfers who like hitting different colored golf balls.

Callaway created a new HyperElastic SoftCast Core, which replaces the old Compression Core in the previous balls. They optimized this new core to allow for faster ball speeds and a better feel around the green. The Hybrid Cover is similar to the 2022 version, with a few tweaks to allow even more control over the golf ball.

Key Features in the Callaway Supersoft

HyperElastic SoftFast Core

Callaway created a new HyperElastic SoftFast Core, which is even softer than previous balls. Callaway optimizes this core to allow for even faster ball speeds than before, along with an even softer feel around the green.

With this new core, the ball explodes off the club face, which is what most golfers look for.

Hybrid Cover

Callaway has included a hybrid trionomer cover on the 2022 and 2023 versions of the Supersoft. The new trionomer material is durable and allows Callaway to increase ball speeds without making the golf ball rock hard and rigid.

Generally, two-piece golf balls are very simple and hollow, but the Callaway Supersoft feels different. The soft feel is great for around the greens, but the durability and low spin allow it to roll for miles on the fairway. Callaway thinks it has his the right mix and we tend to agree.

Supersoft Alignment Line

The exact alignment line as last year is still on the 2023 Callaway Supersoft. The alignment line is easy to see and lines up on your putts to help you hit the ball exactly where you want it to go.

2023 Callaway ERC Soft Overview

The 2023 Callaway ERC Soft is a three-piece golf ball. The original was initially released in 2019, so this is the fifth variation of it. Because it is a three-piece ball, it has a few differences from the Supersoft balls.

The ERC Soft is Callaway’s longest golf ball available from their lineup. New to the ERC Soft this year is the introduction of a new GRIP Urethane Coating and high-speed mantle. The mantle is the middle layer of this three-piece ball.

Like the Supersoft, the ERC Soft has the new HyperElastic SoftFast Core and Hybrid Cover, will have the golf ball exploding off the face of the club and finding more fairways.

Key Features in the Callaway ERC Soft

HyperElastic SoftFast Core

The new HyperElastic SoftFast Core is even softer than the previous generation. It optimizes the core to allow for even fast ball speeds (more than before), along with an even softer feel around the green. With this new core, the ball explodes off the club face, which is what most golfers look for.

Hybrid Cover

Callaway has included their Hybrid Cover like on the previous ERC Soft, with a few tweaks. This new trionomer material is durable and allows Callaway to increase your ball speeds with a soft feel.

Generally, two-piece golf balls do not have a very good feeling, but the Callaway Supersoft feels different. The soft feel is great for around the greens, but the durability and low spin allow it to roll for miles on the fairway, precisely what Callaway wants.

GRIP Urethane Coating

This GRIP Urethane Coating is a new coating system implemented by Callaway which features high-elongation paint on the golf ball. This material allows for more control over the golf ball and more spin on short game shots.

You don’t even realize this is on the ball, but you can tell the increase in control compared to the previous year’s iterations of the ball.

High-Speed Mantle

The mantle, which is the casing of the core (so the second piece of the three-piece ball), has been tweaked by Callaway. They enhanced the ball speed even more than before, which helps transfer more energy between the different layers of the golf ball.

This allows for even more distance, spin, and control around the greens.

Triple Track Dagger Technology

The three-line alignment is the same as previous generations of Callaway ERC Soft golf ball. Callaway calls this their Triple Track Technology.

These three dagger lines are predominantly featured on the side of the golf ball and are an excellent tool to help you find the correct alignment on every single putt.

Callaway Supersoft vs ERC Soft: Comparison

If you are still undecided about which Callaway ball is right for you, let’s go over the exact features and differences that an average golfer will care about.

Number of Layers

The Supersoft is a two-piece golf ball, while the ERC Soft is a three-piece golf ball. The difference with the three-piece is the addition of the high-speed mantle, which is the casing of the core.

The mantle allows for a faster ball speed, more than a two-piece ball, and helps to add distance to every single shot. If you were to hit both balls with the exact same swing, you will notice further distances with the ERC Soft.

Compression Rating

The compression rating on the Callaway Supersoft golf balls is only 38, which is incredibly low compared to other balls. The 2022 version of the Supersoft had a compression rating of 50. The fact that the compression rating is so low means that even slow-swing-speed golfers will find a higher launch and ball speed when hitting the Supersoft golf ball.

The compression rating on the ERC Soft is quite a bit higher, coming in at 60. Although it is not as soft as the Supersoft golf balls, it still has incredible ball speed and launch due to the construction of the three-piece ball. That is also why Callaway advertises it as its longest soft-feeling golf ball.

Spin

Due to the two-piece construction and goal of being one of the softest golf balls on the market, the Callaway Supersoft will always be at the top of spin charts compared to other balls. Spin and control have increased compared to last year’s model, and also compared to similar soft golf balls.

With the ERC Soft, Callaway says that it has added about 400 rpm more spin than the previous model – this is a 10-15% increase. The increase in spin is partly due to the addition of the GRIP Urethane coating, which helps to increase the spin on every single shot.

A higher RPM will allow the ball to launch into the air easier.

Pricing

The 2023 Callaway Supersoft golf balls come in the standard white color along with matte yellow, green, orange, red, and pink. Amateur golfers will love having the option of playing with colored golf balls, and the great thing is that the price is the same for all. They are available for $24.99 USD for a dozen, making them an excellent budget option.

The 2023 Callaway ERC Soft comes in Triple Track White and Triple Track Yellow. They are available for $39.99 per dozen, which is quite a bit more expensive than the Supersoft. That is due to the extra constructions costs of a three-piece ball.

2023 Callaway Supersoft vs ERC Soft: Which One is Better For You?

Slower Swing Speeds

The Supersoft is an incredibly soft-feeling golf ball that is perfect for slow to mid-swing speed golfers. It is good for those golfers because the compression rating is incredibly low, which means you can swing slow and still get high launch and extra distance added.

Golfers on a Budget

The Supersoft golf balls are a great budget option and cheaper than other balls on the market. At about $2 per golf ball, it is almost half the price of a golf ball like the Titleist Pro V1.

The Average Golfer

The ERC Soft is also made for moderate swing speeds, but more towards the better golfers. With the three-piece construction and higher compression rating, the ERX Soft is more workable. You can hit some intentional shape shots with it and get some short game spin.

The ERC Soft also has a higher compression rating, which is closer to a tour type of ball.

At the end of the day, try these two and find out the right golf ball for you and your swing speed.
