Best Hybrid Golf Clubs 2017

While we have given you list for the best clubs available, including woods, irons, and wedges, some people want something more. For these golfers, the basic club just does not do everything they need done in their golf game.

So what can we do for these kinds of golfers? For these players, we have Hybrid Clubs.

So what exactly is a hybrid club? Well, a hybrid club is almost exactly as it sounds: a hybrid of two different kinds of clubs that provide more options than the basic club options, and as such can replace certain clubs in the players golf bag.

As such, there is a wide range of these hybrid clubs available, either in the form of hybrid irons and woods, to hybrid wedges and even putters. So, with such a wide range of options available, what should you look for when making a purchase?

Our Best Hybrid Golf Club Pick: Cleveland Golf 588 Hybrid Wood

best hybrid golf clubs

The Cleveland Golf 588 Hybrid Wood is a great hybrid with a low price. It has arguably the best shaft in any hybrid which provides a high launch, speed and stability at impact. The lower center of gravity of this club helps to give a more accurate shot. The club face also gives a great forgiveness potential, making this club a good choice for beginners.

Buying Factors for Best Hybrid Golf Clubs

Club

Well, to start, you really should consider what club it is in your golf bag you would like to replace. This is because you will want a hybrid that will provide similar play to said club, and that compliments the rest of the clubs in your bag well.

Flex and Loft

The flex and loft of the Hybrid you choose should be taken into consideration as well. You will want something that can provide similarly to the club you want to replace, that way adapting to the new club is easier.

Price

It also goes without saying that price should be a factor, especially considering that hybrid clubs can tend to be more expensive than their normal counterparts. The best quality hybrids are usually more forgiving, with larger sweet spots, but they also tend to stay in a higher price range, making the choice between budget and quality essential.

Now it's time to find the right hybrid club to meet your needs. And to help with that, we present our list for your consideration.

Best Hybrid Golf Clubs 2017

Adams Golf Super S Hybrid Golf Club

Our first Hybrid today is the Adam's Golf Super S Hybrid. Coming in at a price tag of about $45 dollars, the Super S is not only a great golf club, but maybe one of the most affordable hybrids on the market.

The Super S comes with a sole slot featuring "Cut-thru slot technology", which helps increase ball speeds off of a shot. This is a great feature for trying to get more distance off the tee on longer Par 3 holes.

The Super S' crown is another component that improves this clubs performance, with a thinner, deeper, and longer crown slot. This along with a contrasting PVD face helps to increase the clubs performance and forgiveness.

The issues with this club seem a bit odd, however, with some people claiming that the club shaft was shorter than expected. This may be a by-case sort of issue, but it has effected enough people to be mentioned as a possible drawback.

All in all, the Super S is a great hybrid to start our list today. With its ability to be switched for your 3W or an iron, it is an overall great club at a great price.

Things We Liked

  • Technology to increase ball speed and club performance & forgivness
  • Very affordable

Things We Didn't Like

  • Some claims the shaft is shorter than expected

TaylorMade Men's R15 Rescue Hybrid

If you are looking for a Hybrid that is a bit more diverse than our last entry then we have a club for you. With a price point of slightly above $100, the TaylorMade R15 Rescue Hybrid is a Hybrid made for many situations.

The R15 is made with a club head that has a special, tour-inspired shape and smaller footprint. These features allow the club to be a good club choice in any kind of lie, making it a good substitute even for some wedges.

TaylorMade Men's R15 Rescue Hybrid

If you are looking for a Hybrid club that can help provide your shots with more distance, then this is also a good club for that. With a 3 degree loft sleeve and a central center of gravity, getting a good shot from the fairway or the tee box are both possible.

While the features are great, this hybrid does not really provide you with too much in the way of game improvement, as the club plays very much like other clubs you may already have. If you have a full set of clubs already available to you, then there may not be much reason to add this club aside from making your golf bag lighter.

Don't get me wrong, a lighter golf bag is certainly a good thing, and the R15 is a Hybrid that can more than take the place of several other clubs. If you are looking for something that has the ability to replace some clubs in your bag, or are just assembling your first set, then this is the club for you.

Things We Liked

  • Great playability from more lies
  • Provides shots with more distance
  • Lightweight

Things We Didn't Like

  • Not much game improvement features

Callaway Men's XR Hybrid

Diversity is the name of the game with the Callaway Men's XR Hybrid. Being a Hybrid capable of great, hard hitting shots and maximum forgiveness is what the XR brings to the table, and that is just a portion of the features available.

To start, the XR's face cup, called the "Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup", helps increase the speed of your shot all across the face, giving accuracy and forgiveness from any point of impact.

Callaway Men's XR Hybrid

This is a great thing for newcomers to the game who are struggling with their shots from the tee or fairway.

Also helping with forgiveness is the club head as a whole, with a higher MOI and lower CG that helps to reposition the weight of the head. This helps to hit your ball lower and better than you might have otherwise.

It's hard to speak on setbacks for this club, as there really are few, if any. Many people seemed to be largely happy with the XR Hybrid, with any complaints on the club being purely preferential, such as the design or feel of the club.

If you can afford to lay down the hefty $150 or so for this club, than you will likely be very happy with the XR Hybrid. A great club with maximum forgiveness makes this club a viable replacement for many irons and woods in your bag.

Things We Liked

  • Increased Ball Speed For Greater Distance
  • Higher MOI and Lower CG In A Hybrid
  • Great for beginners

Things We Didn't Like

  • Relatively expensive

Cleveland Golf 588 Hybrid Wood

Going back down to the more affordable Hybrid options is the Cleveland Golf 588 Hybrid Wood, a club that cost about $60 dollars.

Even with the lower price point, however, you get more than your money's worth of features.

To start is something we haven't talked about much with our other clubs: the shaft.

best hybrid golf clubs

The shaft, also known as the "Matrix OZIK Altus Shaft", is a shaft designed to provide players with a high launch, speed, and stability at impact with the ball, giving the Cleveland one of the best shafts from our Hybrids listed today.

The club face, made with varying degrees of thickness throughout, is another feature that offers players options. On centered hits, the 588 provides great flight and when off center, amazing speed, giving this club great forgiveness potential.

Another great feature of the 588 is the low center of gravity the club has. With more weight positioned lower in the club, you are able to get high launching and accurate shots, making this yet another feature that makes this club a good choice.

You get all this, and more, for a price point that is lower than most other hybrids. While it may not be able to replace every club in your bag, the Cleveland 588 Hybrid certainly makes a great argument for being a replacement for most.

Things We Liked

  • Shaft provides high launch, speed and stability
  • Great forgiveness potential
  • Low CG resulting in accurate shots

Things We Didn't Like

  • The ONLY negative rating is from an owner who received it with a small chip in the toe

Nike VRS Covert 2.0 Hybrid

While usually known for their cleats and other sports gear, Nike has been known to dabble in the golf industry as well. And with the VRS Covert 2.0 Hybrid, Nike tries their hand in the Hybrid Market with our last club today.

To try and set them apart, Nike has a very stylish design on the head of the club. Coming in a deep red and chrome color and emblazoned with the Nike logo, this club is one of the best looking hybrids available today.

Nike VRS Covert 2.0 Hybrid

That doesn't mean that the Nike Hybrid can't perform, however. Coming with a 20 degree loft and regular, Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage shaft, this club is able to perform as good as any 3 wood or iron on the course.

The club is expensive, coming in at around $170 dollars. While this is nothing special for a hybrid, it is a lot considering the Nike Hybrid does not do much to set it apart from the competition.

There are a lot of people who have bought this club used, however, with no issue and for a lot cheaper. If you can manage to find a used one, then you can get yourself an affordable hybrid that both plays and looks great to add to your bag.
